Policies for Use of On Ice and Off Ice Harness System
Draft March 29, 2011
1. Training:
The Coach Coordinator will attend the training by Marc Le Bel when the harness is installed. Coordinator will invite other coaches who will be working at our club to also attend the training session.
Coach Coordinator will assure that any Skate Canada certified coach that uses the harness, has been Le Bel trained by Coach Coordinator.
2. Inspection:
The club will have the harness inspected yearly or otherwise recommended by the inspecting engineer.
3. Waiver for Use
Parents/guardians of all club skaters eligible to use the harness will sign a club waiver.
Parents/guardians will be informed that their son/daughter will be using the harness and will be told the reasons for using the harness.
4. Fairness
*The purpose of this article is to recognize that FLSC funds paid for the harness, and it was not purchased for only one or two high level skaters' use. The intention is that it is a shared tool that all skaters may benefit from.*
All Fuller Lake Skating club skaters will be given an equal opportunity to use the harness, at the discretion of the trained coaches, and dependent on skater's skill level and need.
Skaters from other clubs, and who are registered with Skate Canada, who purchase a partial package, ie one day, at Fuller Lake Skating club, may use the harness with their trained coach, provided no FLSC skater is being denied access.
FLSC executive does not give blanket permission for skaters from other clubs to drop in for the purpose of using the harness systems.
5. Use
Use is at the discretion of the trained coach, and is typically used for learning loop jump and higher.
Coaches will coordinate with each other a schedule for use, so that conflict does not arise.
At the coaches discretion, in order to make the most use possible of the harness equipment, skaters may be asked to use the harness in sessions for which they do not usually skate. These additional sessions, must not take away from the coaching of other skaters.
6. Time of Use
The harness can be used on daytime ice by FLSC coaches as long as the coach has been Le Bel trained and is a FLSC club skater.
Coach will inform the president via phone or email of his/her intention to use the harness systems outside of official club ice time.
*The purpose of this article is to recognize that conflict arose in the past due to coaches bringing skaters from other clubs, renting daytime ice, and using the FLSC property without the permission of the club. The liability insurance, as clarified by North Cowichan, for the harness is based on FLSC giving permission for the harness to be used.
7. Rules on ice during use
Coach with the harness will wait till solo skater is out of the way before directing skater to jump.
Other skaters and coaches on the ice will stay clear of the coach and skater in the harness.
8. Storage
The harness belt will be stored in the coaches room.
At the end of club sessions, coach coordinator will ensure that ropes are stored in the appropriate way and the harness is put away.
